City of Lynwood issued the following announcement on Dec. 16
Lynwood is going to become even prettier in 2021 and beyond.
One thousand new trees are going to be planted around the city, thanks to TreePeople and Loyola Marymount University.
TreePeople partnered with the Loyola Marymount University Center for Urban Resilience (CURes) to conduct a tree canopy prioritization in the City of Lynwood. The process utilizes high resolution, high accuracy tree canopy data as a foundation to engage the public in identifying their priorities for tree planting in the city.
Two public hearings were held last week that shared the Tree Canopy Data which have been collected that showed where the city could have trees and what type of trees will be able to thrive best in the different areas of the city.
Residents who attended the meeting were asked to share their input of where they’d like to see trees planted along the city roadways and what benefits from the trees they would like to be prioritized.
Those survey results will be tabulated by our friends at TreePeople and LMU and early next year we’ll learn of what they and city officials have learned and how the tree planting program is going to be conducted. Residents and city employees will work together in planting the trees.
Trees are great for our community.
In addition to beautifying the city, trees also cool the air and help with cleaning the environment by reducing air pollution, conserving water and reducing soil erosion.
